LICENSE TO LUST The owner of an Adult Men's Entertainment establishment sought to deflect objections from Christian protesters by describing his female employees (dancers) as professional actresses who were "licensed" to act and entertain. Like great civilizations long since dead (Rome comes to mind.) ours has become obsessed with the sensual, sexual, and sadistic. Purity and propriety have been sacrificed to the gods of lust and greed. Pressure is put on legislators to acquiesce and legalize just about everything in the name of "progress". Sadly, some rationalize and refuse to act responsibly, placing politics above principle. Men have legalize the lewd, but legalization will not make the fruits of sin any less bitter. Broken hearts, broken lives, and broken homes will be left in the wake of the resulting "tsunami" of immorality. The devastation on the moral "plains and beaches" of America is of tidal proportions. The destruction is readily apparent to the concerned observer and the spiritually discerning. The apostle Paul beheld the idolatry of Athens and the corruption of Corinth. (See Acts 17,18.) Both cities had fallen prey to common cultural lusts. Religious indifference and rampant immorality were the status quo. (See Acts 17:32; I Cor. 6:9-11.) There seemed to be little hope for people so enmeshed in sin. But Paul held forth the gospel, the story of the cross of Christ, as the means of their salvation. (I Cor. 1:17-18; Romans 1:16) He preached the simple and sublime truths of the risen Lord, even though some mocked. He reminded the Corinthians that love, not lust, is the more excellent way. (I Cor. 13) It still is. The Lord grants no license to lust! Edward L. Anderson
