COULD YOU USE A MAKEOVER?

    ABC has a program called "Extreme Makeovers".  Each show usually features three subjects selected from a pool of applicants who are not happy with their looks.  Nose jobs, face lifts, vision repair, tummy tucks, enhancements or reductions, porcelain capped teeth, and hair dos are done by renowned and very talented doctors and stylists.  Some procedures require major surgery.  The dramatic changes are then unveiled in flamboyant Hollywood style before amazed family and friends.

    There is no doubt that many need an extreme spiritual makeover.  The following areas come to mind.

    Tongue.  Tongues full of cursing and bitterness need to be removed and replaced by tongues of kindness, truth and encouragement. (Rom. 3:13-14; Eph. 4:25, 29, 31, 32.)

    Vision.  Eyes full of evil need repair that they might see clearly the good and the beautiful as well as the fields white unto harvest. (Matt. 6:22-23; John 4:35; Prov. 29:18.)

    Heart.  The heart is truly the "control center" of life.  A man is what he thinks! "Create in me a clean heart, O God." (Psalm 51:10; cf. Prov. 23:7; Matt. 5:8,)

    Nose.  A friend explained why his nose was so large:  "I haven't worn it off sticking it in other people's business!"  Busybodies need a "nose job".  They are busy in the wrong places. (1 Tim. 5:13; 2 Thess. 3:11; 1 Peter 4:15.)

    Feet.  Soldiers of Christ wear "gospel of peace" shoes.  We must be ready to march anywhere with Jesus (Eph. 6:15), and be ready to give answer. (1 Peter 3:15.)

    Breast.  The breastplate of righteousness is modest, safe, and becoming.  It may not get you on the cover of a popular magazine, but it will get you to heaven! (Eph. 6:14.)

    Backbone.  A country song says, "You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything."  Joseph, Joshua, and Jesus are edifying examples of courage in the face of temptation and adversity. ( 1 Cor. 16:13; Eph. 6:10.)

    Let the Great Physician "operate" on you and the world will be influenced by the fact you have been with Jesus. (Matt. 11: 28-30; Acts 4:13; Matt. 5:13-16.)
